Every couple has a unique story. Go down memory lane with us and see how ours started. From a ping-pong date during Christmas break, to the magical day in Lake Tahoe where we got engaged, this is our love story.
It was Christmas break and we both had a lot of time in our hands, so we decided to play a friendly game of ping-pong. Jad had the clever idea that the loser buys the winner coffee. He says he lost on purpose but I don't believe it. Anyway, he ended up buying me coffee. We played a lot more ping-pong after that.
I hung out with her a lot during the Christmas break. We finally had our first official “date” and watched the NVBS play. I told her I liked her the next day.
I wanted to ask her in a creative way to the Valentine's Day activity so I decided to do it through Instagram. Thanks to some great friends and accurate timing, the plan worked.
Jad told me we were gonna watch a Disney movie at our friends house. He put on the movie and it started with the same Disney intro, but it turned into a video of him talking about me and in the end, he asked me to be his girlfriend. He also gave me this beautiful necklace from Tiffany & Co.
Melissa asked me to Sadie’s by sending me a package with a Starbucks mug and a poem. It was the first care package I’ve received while at GSBC. Sadie Hawkins was so much fun. She planned the perfect date. The food was great and we had a chance to spend the whole day together! Also, check out the sweet Thank You card I made for her :)
Melissa and I were able to go down to SoCal together for a mini-vacation. We were able to see baby John (my nephew) for the first time. We also had a blast at Disneyland, which is one of my favorite places!
I knew he loved me, but he had yet to say the magical word. He told me we were going to go get our pictures taken with his friend Jake and his wife. While we were at Vasona park taking our pictures, he pulled out a chalkboard and wanted to use it as a prop. He then started writing “Jad Loves Melissa” while having the biggest smile on his face. Before I could realize what was going on, he whispered to me that he loved me. Of course I said it back ♥
Melissa and I visited Oregon for Christmas to be with her family. I tease her a lot about being from Oregon, but I quickly changed my mind once I saw how beautiful it was. We got to see Silver Falls, shoot guns, explore Portland, and to top it all off, spend the holidays with each other.
It's been one year since Melissa and I started dating and it definitely was the best year of my life!
We did it! We are finished with this journey and ready to embark on the next adventure. So glad that I was able to graduate with Jad.
Melissa's grandparents invited me to go to vacation with their family to Hawaii. Although it was a sacrifice to leave the comforts of California to go to this distant island, I decided to make the trip. I had such a great time and didn't want to leave. The sights in Hawaii were spectacular. The icing on the cake was the surprise birthday party that Melissa threw for me. Can't wait to go back to Hawaii again!
I was finally ready to propose. I wanted it to be a complete surprise, and I wanted to do it overlooking a gorgeous view. I decided that I was going to do it at Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe, which is one of the most photographed places in the world. My cousin and I left early Saturday morning to survey the area and see the exact spot. On our way home, Melissa called me. She started asking me where I was. I told her that I was in Palo Alto with Adriel and that we were getting coffee. I then got nervous and mixed up the story. I told her that we were actually getting ice cream... She always falls for that trick ;)
A week before, I was with Jad when his cousin called. He had him on speaker. He mentioned snowboarding and didn't realize I was with Jad. As soon as he said that, my eyes lit up. Jad kept telling me that he had a birthday surprise for me and I finally knew what it was! He was gonna take me snowboarding for my birthday. I was so excited while Jad was disappointed that his cousin had ruined the surprise.
The day was finally here. We left early in the morning and we went to Sierra at Tahoe to go snowboarding for the day. I had a lot of fun and it was a great birthday surprise. I had no idea that the surprise was just getting started!
It was the next day, and I was expecting to go to church in the morning, go sightseeing, and head back to Santa Clara. I was told to be ready at a certain time, and I was. Jad, on the other hand, was running late. I was like, “Well he’s running late, but this is just a vacation so it’s all good.” I kept asking Adriel and Andrew where he was and they gave me some random answer that didn’t really answer my question. Little did I know that he was actually making the finishing touches to the video he had planned for me.
Went to church in the morning, and after, went to coffee. Jad went to use the restroom while we all were talking, and I noticed that he was taking a really long time. WOW JAD. Again, I had no idea he was getting ready for the proposal. He came out, and it was finally time for sightseeing! We all asked the barista where a pretty place to go is, and he told us to go to Emerald Bay. So off we went!
We headed up the mountain to look for Emerald Bay. When we got there, it was breathtaking. I saw some people taking pictures, a common thing for somewhere that scenic. We went to take a picture with Emerald Bay behind us in the background when Jad pulled out a poem. He said “I wrote you something for your birthday.” I was like, “WHAT, really!?!” At that point, I knew something was up. He read me the poem and at the end it said, “Will you be my wife?” He got down on one knee, and popped the BIG question. “Melissa Anne Preston, will you marry me?” I was sooooo surprised! And, of course I said “YES.”
Jad pointed me to a lady taking our picture who I had seen earlier not thinking anything of it. He told me that she was there to take our pics. So we went down to the shore to take our engagement pictures right then! I was alllll smiles!
On the way home, Jad told me that he had one last surprise for me. What could he possibly have on top of everything he had already done? He made a video for me with many of my friends and family members congratulating me. He had shots from the whole process of him planning our engagement. He also confessed to telling me he was in Palo Alto, when really, he was in Lake Tahoe to get everything prepared. It was the sweetest video! He made the entire day the best day of my life. I love Jad!
We are finally getting married. The ceremony will take place in the Evergreen Chapel in McMinnville, Oregon. We would love for all our friends and family to be there. To find out more details about our wedding, click here.
Every love story is beautiful, but ours is my favorite.
